Olive Carrington

Debbie, Chelsea, Jordan, & Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. We know that Our Father will give you His peace and strength to get through. Roger was a real warrior for The Lord and he never lost hope of being in His Father's will. He will be missed by many, many people but those treasured memories will carry us all through. Continue In His Grip and we will too. God bless you all. Olive & Franklin

To All the Bennett Family-I think I speak for literally thousands that Roger has touched that we wish we could be there on Wednesday to show our love and support for you all. Please know that we are all with you in spirit and I for one will spend that time in prayer and thanksgiving for his life and for your family as these next months will be difficult for you all. We pray for your peace and comfort and we Praise God from whom all blessings flow for His saving grace and for "His Ultimate Healing"

We all pray for your comfort at this most difficult time of seperation. Knowing GOD is in charge helps, but the pain is very real. Roger lives in the hearts of all who enjoyed Souther Gospel, in that way his message of God's love will continue to go on for many years to come. Thanks for the memories.

Yes, Debbie, you and your family are in my prayers. May you feel God's presence very near you!!!

It would be nice if there were a DVD made of the celebration service so that those of us living far away could experience the great blessing of hearing the service. I know it will be very inspirational. Maybe the service that is presented in Strawberry, Arkansas can be made available to us. (Just a thought!)

We will be with you in thought and prayer...

My Tribute to Roger Bennett

You got the phone call on a normal summer day

You were diagnosed with leukemia and immediately your life changed

You didn’t know what the future would hold for you and your family

You didn’t know how long you had left to live and serve God faithfully.

But you humbly accepted this trial from the hand of the Lord

And purposed in your heart that you would use it for His glory

You rested in the knowledge that He held you in His grip

And you determined that you would daily pick up your cross and follow Him.

You sung His praises and lived as a servant of the King

By your testimony, you brought others to their knees

You shared with others about what you had learned through your trial

You spoke of His grace with a knowing smile.

You faithfully sang about the land of the living

And how right now, we live in the land of the dying

Your face lit up as you spoke about the love of our Savior

You determinedly sang of His blood and of His truth.

Your testimony influenced young and old alike

You inspired many people and changed many lives

Yet you did not become prideful, as can some

But humbly directed praise to the Champion of Love.

And now the time has come and you have entered His presence

And most assuredly you've heard, “Well done, My good and faithful servant”

You will live with the One you have sung praises to while in this land

You will talk to Him and walk with Him hand in hand.

You are my hero of the faith, your life has impacted mine

Your legacy will live on in the ones you’ve left behind

You’ve left a legacy of love and a testimony of devotion to the Lord

Your legacy will be lived out by the ones you’ve touched now and forevermore.

Debbie, Chelsea, Jordan, Doug, & L5: My prayers are with you all! I know how tiring it can be watching a loved one struggling with an illness. You stay strong in the Faith for them to help encourage; but it's hard at times. Not that you don't trust God because that's the ONLY way to survive those moments; but your flesh gets worn out. I lost my father-in-law due to a long illness then 2 months later I lost my own father..this all happening this year. God continually pours out his strenghth when you're weak. I have been so blessed by Roger's meditations during his illness. He has truly been an example of Christ and blessed so many. His legacy will live on of this I have no doubt! When I heard the news this a.m. one of his songs was going through my mind...Heroes of Faith. He is one of my heroes of Faith as he stayed strong in beliefs...that's a legacy! May God Bless you all and continue to hold you in His Grip! We love you and are praying for you!

We are with you in thoughts & prayers. Our hearts & prayers go out to you and your family & Roger's Dad. May God give you peace & comfort. We will miss Roger very much but we have lots of memories. We look forward to seeing him again when we reach our heavenly home. We love you and we will continue to be "Ropeholders" forever.

Debbie & family. We just want you to know that we care. Roger meant so much to us when we were losing a very close friend with leukemia. Our prayers are with you & your family. Eileen & Claude

Dear Debbie,

We're continuing to lift up you and your family in prayer.

You and Roger planted so many seeds. Only now will we begin to see the real "legacy" the Lord used you to build.

We can never fill Roger's shoes, but we can pick up the torch and carry on.

Yours in Christ,
Livonia, Michigan

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers constantly.

We will all miss Roger. Debbie, since Brentwood streams all their Sunday Services and has all equipment in place, it would be nice if the service could be streamed [similiar to Anthony Burger's] so many of us can also be a part of it.
Tks for the consideration.

Debbie and family,

We will continue to pray for you in the coming days. Roger is an inspiration to us all.

Dear Debbie,

I know intimately the sense of grace that you refer to while dealing with this loss. The same grace carried us when my own Dad went home to be with the Lord in 1996 and I'm here to tell you that it has continued to carry us over 10 years later and it will do the same for you.

Having said that, I know that I don't need to over-spiritualize your very real and legitimate pain.

I know that the grace you speak of is real as is the peace you describe. But I also want you to know that even though I know that the grace and peace is real, so is the pain and that it's ok to express that and feel every bit of it! It's NOT unspiritual to grieve and it's ok to hurt all the while knowing that you are still in fact, IN HIS GRIP!

With Love and Prayers from my family to yours.

Gordon & Terrye Robertson

We are praying for your family in this time of loss and stress. Words alone cannot express our feelings of what you and Roger have meant to us personally, especially during Terrye's cancer and treatment. Roger has truly made a difference in our life as well as thousands of others. We are praying that God's grace and the certain knowledge that Roger is literally in the grip of our Savior will comfort you and your family in the coming days.
We love you,
Gordon & Terrye

I remember as a preteen in the early '80s watching the Cathedrals perform live in ElDorado, Arkansas. I was just starting out with piano lessons and had been playing in our church due to the loss of our piano player. My dad walked me up to Roger Bennett and introduced the both of us. He told them how words could not describe the feeling of sitting there in the audience and hearing the wonderful music and vocals that came from that group;
especially Roger Bennett. Roger was graciously accepting our praise and turned to tell me to never give up and press on with my lessons. I told him that my heart was with (and still is and always will be) gospel music. I will never forget that meeting; and thoughtful, kind words from one of the greatest musicians that God has put on the earth. May your family find comfort and strength in His name and His word. As Roger's words found a place in a young girls heart. As I continue to play for our church now, those words have made such a lasting impression - I just wanted to share this with you and your family.

Above All Know That God Makes No Mistakes. Roger is celebrating and we can't begrudge him for that. Those who are left behind must carry on until once again we all gather just beyond the river in that golden city. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I know that the Lord must have said "Welcome home at last." We are holding you up in prayer. The McCormick Family

hi Debbie,
i just want you to know that you continue to stay in my thoughts......tears were flowing as i listened to Home Free. Roger certainly knew there was a chance he would get better here or get the Ultimate Healing...he never doubted where he would go if he died and that is an incredible testimony. We do not ever have to worry where he is.he is in Heaven with his Heavenly Father and his MOM and everyone else and now they wait for us..just know that Roger has touched my life and i am changed forever because of that..i pray that these next few days will be what Roger would want them to be!!!!

What I'm Reading Right Now

  • Ron Mehl: What God Whispers in the Night

Ron Mehl: What God Whispers in the Night
Ron Mehl is a hero that I never met. A friend gave me this book a couple of years ago and it really touched me. Ron was suffering with Leukemia and had written several wonderful books before this one "Whispers" really got to me. The main thought is why is it that God who IS light, who created light, does so much of his work in the dark? The answer, because that's where WE are. We struggle in darkness, our weakness is more pronounced in the darkness and we feel so alone in our darkness. But....God is not intimidated by the dark! He invades it and speaks to us there! You should read this book asap. (*****)
